Here’s 3 reasons to get rid of 75% of what you own.

1. Your clutter is blocking you from reaching your goals.
Eliminating your clutter will help you reach your goals. How? Clutter constantly cries out for your attention, keeping you busy doing meaningless, trivial tasks that act as an attention thief. Clutter that just sits there, that doesn’t serve any purpose, becomes the restless squatter in your head, that panhandles your dreams when you sleep, because like the drunk panhandler, it’s lost it’s way and lacks a purpose.

The junk that you have sitting around your house represents unfinished business. If you’re not using it, it’s using you by occupying your physical space, and blocking the creative flow. Eliminating most of what you own will enable you to focus on reaching your goals and getting results a whole lot faster.

2. Your clutter is making you fat.
When you hang onto stuff you don’t use or don’t need, you subconsciously are telling your body to hang onto fat that you don’t need. Take action and get rid of 75% of what you own. Not only is it cathartic to own less, it is less burdensome emotionally, which translates to the physical area as well. Once you clear and minimize your physical space, by eliminating 75% of what you own, your body will follow suit, and adjust to the space, by eliminating the excess fat it is storing.

3. Your clutter prevents you from taking risks.
When you own a bunch of things, you can’t just pick up and move to another town or state or country. You’ve got to figure out what to do with all your stuff. What began as an innocent purchase has ended up as a demanding relationship.

Trust me on this. My former job was working for a moving company and pretty much every time I moved someone, they lament: “How did I get all this stuff? I’ve gotta have a garage sale.”

And I felt like saying: “You should’ve thought about that before paying $168 an hour to hire 3 movers to transport all this junk. And you should’ve dusted it first, because it’s not fun picking up a 500 pound dresser, full of clothes, then tilting it to go upstairs only to get a mouthful of dust-filled cat hair that slides down off the top into my face, and open mouth as I inhale to get the extra oxygen to pick up this heavy piece of garbage you use to hide your gluttonous clothes pile.”

Of course, most people don’t move that often, and because it’s usually a stressful event in their lives, they’re inexperienced with the entire process. That’s understandable, and my intention is not to ridicule them, but rather to present it from a mover’s point of view.

(Yes, the going rate for 3 movers is $168 an hour. That’s what the company charges. At the job, I was paid $14 an hour.)

Reduce your clutter

Your clutter is blocking your goals. Your clutter is making you fat. Your clutter prevents you from taking risks. These are 3 reason to get rid of 75% of what you own.
