7 Ways to Take Control of Your Life and Get More Freedom | kriskemp.com

If you want to take control of life and get more freedom to do what you want and to get what you want, keep reading. I’ve put together a list of 7 things you can do, right now, in order to take control of your life and get more freedom.

1. Eliminate timeworms
Timeworms is a word that I came up with that describes people who are a waste of time. You know who they are. Often, they talk about themselves or topics that are negative and non-productive. They tend to gossip about irrelevant stuff.

If you let them, timeworms crawl into the apple of who you are, burrow themselves in, and crawl out the other side, leaving a hole. They offer nothing. They waste your time and leave a cavity where they were.

Delete time wasters
Eliminate these people from your life. Delete them off Facebook. Block their calls. They’re not going to change. And don’t let them waste your time trying to convince you that they will. If they are begging you, tell them, briefly, why you don’t enjoy your company and offer suggestions for what they can do to be a better person. Then walk away. Don’t look back.

2. Lose Complainers
If you want to free your time, lose the complainers. If there’s people around you who are constantly complaining, get away from them. They’re wasting their time, your time, and they are spreading negativity. By complaining, they’re giving life to negativity. Typically, when complainers are presented a solution, they complain about how it won’t work. (Fine. Stay in your pothole, dumbass.)

A lot of people complain about this and that and I’m here to tell you what you probably already know, but perhaps have forgotten to remind yourself of. Like pigs wallowing in the mud, those complainers are wallowing in the problem. For some reason, they love it, because they keep complaining and whining.

Complaining as an identity
Perhaps complaining gives them an identity. The people who complain about “never having enough money” or “always getting sick” will stay poor and stay sick, since they’re constantly putting that out into the universe. Words have power. And speaking words of negativity will bring negativity toward the person that speaks those words. Think about it.

God spoke the world into existence. We are made in the image of God. So, think carefully before you say something. When you do speak, use words that are positive, that have a healing effect.

3. Dress better
That’s right. I just typed this. Dress better. Although I used to dress like a slob, wearing poor fitting clothes that would make me look like a scarecrow, after traveling to France and Germany, I realized the importance of dressing well.

Had I paid attention, maybe my wake up call would have come earlier. Years ago, I lived in a community artists space warehouse and sculptor Thomas Bazinet (aka Rooster) told me: “You look like Keannu Reeves.”

“Really?” I asked, smiling.

“On crack.” Thomas smiled, then laughed.

I laughed, too, but it kind of hurt my feelings. Looking in the mirror, which I usually did about once a week, I concluded that I did look pretty scruffy.

Europeans dress better than Americans
Recently, though, I went to Europe and before leaving, I did some research on clothes to wear while traveling. Most blogs recommended clothes that were a blend of polyester and cotton, and clothes that were fitting. I solved both of these requirements by purchasing clothes at H&M in the Palm Beach Gardens Mall.

Traveling around Europe, with a hiking backpack that allowed limited space, wearing comfortable, form fitting clothes was a necessity. Seeing how well the Europeans dressed inspired me. They wear comfortable, form fitting clothes and nice shoes. You don’t see too many dirty sneakers or baggy T-shirts in France or Germany, unless they are worn by American tourists.

Get someone to help you dress better
After returning to America, I asked my girlfriend, Raegan, to help me select some clothes. We went to H&M and she helped me determine which pants and shirts looked best. Having someone else’s opinion really helps. Thanks Raegan.

You can always find a friend who can help you. If you don’t have a friend, offer to pay someone $15 to help you, or take them out to lunch or something. Dressing well, as vain and as superficial as this may sound, can alter your mood, and this, in effect, can alter your circumstance and open up opportunities for great things.

What’s my point with all this?
Wearing comfortable and form fitting clothes, made from good material, helps you to raise your standards and feel more confident. Wearing crappy clothes lowers your confidence and thus lower your standards. Having low standards is like putting a loser magnet out there. You end up surrounded by people who waste your time and offer nothing in return.

4. Eat well
Eat healthy and delicious foods. If you don’t know how to prepare foods, whether it’s making a delicious sandwich, salad, or a hot meal like stir fry or baked sweet potatoes, you can always learn.

Go to Google and search for “how to cook (fill in the food)” or go to YouTube and search for “how to prepare (fill in the food)”. You can read online or watch videos. A great way to learn how to cook is to set up your laptop in your kitchen and watch videos while preparing your meal.

6. Live with less
You can probably get by with a lot less junk in your life. If you feel overwhelmed, just give it away, sell it, trade it, or put it at the curb. No need to keep stuff that’s just another thing to dust, clean, or move around from one shelf to another shelf to another room, trying to find a place for it. Just get rid of it.

Reduce clutter. Live with less. Get rid of things. Own less, so you can live more. How can you be free when you’re surrounded by so much junk? Can you? Get rid of it. Now.

7. Read more
Quit watching “American Idol”, “Family Guy”, “The Housewives of New Jersey”, “Hoarders” and “Man vs Food”. Watching bad shows is just as bad as eating bad foods. It’s a diet. And that diet of bad shows is making you dumb.

Books and Blogs
Get away from the TV and visit your library. Get a library card and start reading books. Not into books? Then read online. Pick some websites and blogs that you enjoy. Bookmark them. Read them.
