Before you start reading this, understand that I’m going to type this as fast as possible and let whatever goes through my head come out onto this blog post.

Essentially, there are rivers of consciousness all around us. And within those rivers there are beautiful fish, lovely stones, pure drinking water, and even valuable minerals flowing along the bottom, including gold.

As someone who enjoys seeing what’s useful and sharing it with you, I’m going to mine these valuable resources and share them with you.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed in life, tired by the mayhem that surrounds you, wearied by the noise, there are simple actions you can take to recharge your spirit.

You have options

You don’t have to be anchored to a person, place, thing, situation, circumstance that does little to rejuvenate you.

You don’t have to be tied down to a job that does not appreciate you.

You don’t have to scratch in the dirt looking for pennies or live under the table hoping for crumbs.

You don’t have to cling to that bar like a life raft and feign coolness despite the fact that inside you feel so alone.

There is hope for you. You have options. You have choices.

Take action to get more freedom

I think I’ve heard it said, or maybe I’ve read somewhere that you are the accumulation of your choices. Once you see that you can choose to do something differently in order to get a different result, you will see the benefits of making that choice, of taking that action and, as a result, of getting more freedom in your life.

Stress Relief Ideas: Five things you can do feel less overwhelmed

1. Only check Facebook once a day.

If people really care about you, they’ll send you and e-mail or call you.

Facebook, more or less, is like a high school locker that you check to see if someone has scribbled a note on, or slipped a note into, between the crack. Facebook is like the bathroom wall of the digital era. Facebook is like filling a pothole with cotton candy and then saying, “Go ahead. Walk right over it. You’ll be fine.”

Facebook thrives off of curiosity that can border into obsessively checking your page every 15 minutes to see if anyone’s commented on your recent picture, post, or status. Does it really matter?

2. Go for a walk. Without your iPod.

Yes. You. Go for a walk. Without your iPod. Don’t go with a destination in mind. Just start walking.

Walking is a great way to stimulate blood circulation and bring about relief from anxiety, depression, and thoughts of feeling overwhelmed.

Just start walking. Without expectation.

3. Organize a massage circle.

Invite 5 to 10 friends over for a potluck. Have each of them bring a healthy appetizer. After the dinner, gather in the biggest room of the house, or outside on the yard, or at the beach. Sit in a circle with your backs to each other. Then, everyone start giving the person in front of them a massage.

4. Go to a friend’s house and play with their pet. Or the pet store or animal shelter.

Stroking an animal’s fur will help relieve tension. Also, you don’t have the aggravation or nuisance of having to carry around a dropping in a plastic grocery bag, or kicking that dropping to the grass without getting it on your Puma’s.

5. Sleep somewhere different.

Invite yourself over to your friend’s house for a slumber party. Sleep outside in your backyard or front yard. Or, if your roof has a protective barrier, sleep on your roof. My friend Peter admitted that he slept on the roof of the Circle K in Lake Worth, Florida, for a few nights, during cooler weather.

Sleeping in an unfamiliar environment is like going on a mini vacation.

summary

If you feel overwhelmed by the stress, then you need to take action. In order to get a different result, do something differently. If you’re constantly worrying, then step outside of yourself by putting yourself in a new environment.

Doing this will enable you to see things from a different perspective. And once you do, you’ll notice that the sharp edges of stress and tension only appear that way because of where-you-used-to-be-in-relationship-to-them.

P.S. New travel camping website
Recently, I set up OutoftheWilderness.org which features travel stories, camping gear. It’s an auto blog, meaning it pulls content from other websites. If you’re into camping gear and travel stories, check it out by clicking here. If you’re into it, you can add yourself as a Facebook fan (there’s a Facebook fan box on right side) and as a Twitter follower. Let me know what you think of it, if you have ideas or suggestions. Thanks.
