Songs on piano/keyboard that I’ve written (music and videos) | kriskemp.com

The great thing about playing music is that, in a way, it’s a universal language. You could be in another country and if you can follow along the same musical chords, you can play a song together. Wherever you go, as long as the instrument you play is nearby, you can create that sound, that music.

Piano lessons when I was a kid
I’ve been playing piano for a few years. When I was a kid, I used to have lessons. And I disliked them so much I would hide under the bed. My Mom would drag me out by the ankles and take me to the piano teacher who, patiently, would teach me.

After a short time, the lessons were ended. Years later, I got a keyboard and started writing some songs.

How Out of the Wilderness came about
While living in at the Unarmed Underground Art Center (UUAC), an artist’s community live/work space in Flamingo Park, near Palm Beach Atlantic University and just south of downtown West Palm Beach, Florida, home to Clematis Street, I started a Christian coffeehouse called “The Refuge” and solicited volunteers from PBAU to help with it. At one of the coffeehouse nights I was told about the persecuted church–Christians suffering for their Faith in other countries, where persecution is commonplace. I researched this and prayed for them. Then, songs started coming to me, one after the other. I think God was giving me the songs. You can listen to them at http://www.OutotheWilderness.net.

How Dumpster Diver the musical came about
Soon after that, I began writing the treatment and step outline for what would later become Dumpster Diver the musical.

An incubator for ideas
Living at the Unarmed Underground Art Centre was an interesting experience. Although it was, at times, maddening dealing with dangerous living conditions (electrical cords and extension cords running from ceiling, hanging off walls, walking across wooden planks when the place flooded during a rainstorm), the energy and chaotic dynamic of the place was inspiring. Together, these conditions created a kind-of incubator for creative output.

Playing piano
I do not know how to read music, nor am I professional piano player. I do know how to read bar chords. Here’s some songs that I wrote. I hope you enjoy them. And, if you don’t, please don’t leave any mean comments. There’s plenty of music to find elsewhere on the internet that you might like more. Thanks.
